Teams

Over the course of the four editions of Tour of Britain to date we’ve had some great names take part in the race, some were already famous when they first arrived, for others, Tour of Britain has been a barometer of their future success.

Some of the riders who’ve given early pointers of what was to come at Tour of Britain include Nick Nuyens (winner in 2005), Tom Boonen (2 stages in 2004, 1 stage in 2006) and Matt Goss (Yellow jersey wearer 2006, Stage winner 2007).

The race has also been a great success too in helping bring through great domestic talent. Mark Cavendish first burst onto the international road scene when he took third on a stage in 2005 before returning a year later to take the green jersey, a feat he repeated in 2007 with 2 stage wins and two days in Yellow to boot. Other British riders such as Ben Swift and Geraint Thomas have also used the race as a very effective platform to demonstrate their abilities to the big teams.

Each year, the race is made up of 16 teams of 6 riders, we create the field this way to make it difficult for any one team to dominate the race, ensuring open competitive racing throughout.

The field for the 2008 Tour of Britain will be finalised after the Tour de France, although a number of teams are already confirmed to participate including the Great Britain national squad, Plowman Craven and Rapha-Condor-Recycling from the UK.
